Ives was exhausted. He stood there within the cafeteria's entrance staring at an almost seemingly empty student hangout, ready to jump for joy being almost the only one there with no students to chat up the place making it hard on the ears. It was only last year he started teaching here and it felt like aeons. Being new in the teaching form it was hard and obviously....exausting. Managing grade, taking care of them. Thinking of new lessons and good ones at that. All so very complicated, to him anyway. Often makes him wonder how his teachers before him managed to work that way for years. Having the right attitude and always there. One of the hardest things were trying to stay focused and he barley survived last year.
Ives frowned walking to the very first table closest to him clutching to a plain paper bag he had brought with him. Within it was his lunch. Generic. Derek sat down unrolling the bag pulling out a normal ham sandwich with mustard, a small plastic container of tomato soup and a bottle of orange juice.....minus an apple this time. Sure teachers were supposed to remain healthy and in tip-top shape, but oh well. He looked at his sandwich. The crust was cut off just like he liked it. Derek picked it up and took his first bite into it.
